The camera and lens i am using are: Canon EOS 550d, an old 18mp DSLR & the Tamron SP VC 70-300mm f4-5.6
More about the camera, this camera is extremely old and is kind of terrible by today’s standards, but it works well enough for me. It has a video mode that can shoot at 1080p at 25 fps and a pretty solid amount of options in the menu.
More about the lens, honestly i am very happy with this lens, it zooms out to 300mm which, with the crop factor from my body, is equivalent to 480mm! It is a Tamron SP lens which stands for super performance, it is pretty sharp and it has a very effective VC aka vibration compensation, which reduces the shake from shooting handheld.
Spring is a great time to photograph the colorful flowers and emerging insects. These are my favorite 2023 spring macro pictures

For my gear I have something out of the ordinary, lenses you can attach to your phone:
Telephoto + Macro lensMacro lensTelephoto lens
There are multiple companies selling these lenses and there is a fair amount of false advertising, so be care full what you buy! I use a Samsung s10e as my smartphone.

PRODUCT RATINGS:
Telephoto lens: 6/10 – bad quality images, significantly better than nothing though
Macro lens: 8/10 – good image quality, very powerful macro (sometimes a bit too much)
Wide-Angle lens: 2/10 – most phones have wider angle already, good image quality
Fish-eye lens: 5/10 – haven’t used this one so much because i don’t think its so interesting, good image quality
Tripod: 4/10 – terrible build quality (mine is already on two legs), didn’t tighten properly at the beginning, in the window between it not tightening and only having to legs it was very use full
Lens clip: 7/10 – a bit fiddly but works well and mine has not broken yet
OVER ALL:
Value: 10/10 – only 40 dollars
Build quality 4/10 – mostly cheap plastic
Image quality 8/10 – 6/10 for telephoto lens
NOTES:
Putting the lenses over a wide angle built in phone lens creates a lot of vignetting:

The kit I bought comes with an eye piece that can turn the telephoto lens into a telescope and the macro lens into a magnifying glass.
